Zwave adapter and thermostat does not communicate

Post by James D »

I just purchase the ControlThink Usb adapter and WDTC-20 - Z-Wave Thermostat (Wayne-Dalton)
I have looked all through the help and plug-in help for HB. And it indicated that you need to receive the signal from an controller (remote control).
Is that right? Am I missing anything.
Now the question I have is do I need a z-wave remote control to configure the 2 zwave components together?

Thank guys for the help in advance.

Hi James,

You should not need a remote to add the two.

Have you added the thermostat to your Z-wave network?

If not i suggest you do that then import the new devices into housebot from the hardware interface menu.

That will create the T-stat as a device in housebot.

I had no problems adding my trane z-wave tstat using just the USB z-wave receiver.

Hope this helps

This is my first experience with z-wave. So my knowledge about these product is very elementary. Can you give be a break down on how you set up your system. I have XP service pack 3. When I plugged up the USB controlthink USB adapter(in the device manager it is called HID -Compliant device and USB human Interface device. Is this correct?

Do I need the Think Essential program to set the Thinkstick up? Because I purchased the item without it from ASIHome.

Hi James,

I was in the same boat as you, i ogt mine from homeseer without the Thinkcontrol software.

I bought this:
http://store.homeseer.com/store/Z-Tool- ... 83C68.aspx

and i have this installed on my laptop. When i need to add a new device i unplug it from house bot, connect to my laptop and add whatever the device.

I am not sure what everyone else does for this.

Hope it helps

Well I used the program you suggested for my adaptor. I was able to see the two piece of hardware (zwave) but I am not able to turn the devices on and off on the homeseer zwave program. I am using the WDUSB-10 zwave under the drop down box. There was no selection for the Controlthink or ThinkStick. I am going to try everything again when I get home from work today.

HI James,

You need to use the software to add the devices to your zwave network. once you do that you should be able to control them.

Once you have learned them you can import the devices from the stick into housebot.

let me know if you get stuck and i will write a better walkthru.

I think I have it on the zwave network. The homeseer program have given me node id for the 2 devices. The usb controller is number 1 and the thermostat is number 2. But I could be wrong.

What is the firmware version you have for your zwave device. Mine is 2.66. I was reading a forum post that shows that the zwave device might need to be downgraded.

Hi,

I have version 2.76.

Do you have any other devices to test with?
