New here??? Please be gentle.

Post by Dazed and confused »

I've been playing around with HouseBot for a couple of days and managed to install a USB UIRT interface. I even managed to set up some devices and learn some remote control codes, but when it comes to themes, I'm lost.

I understand that you must associate panel controls with remote code, to send out a remote IR when a button is "Pressed" but I can't understand how to put this theme in a "run" mode. A mode whereby a button can be 'pressed" and send a command but not be repositioned on the panel.

I'm trying to make the HouseBot into a remote control, just like a Pronto but with a bigger screen (interface). I want to use a mouse and the monitor as a remote control. The panels I design would be just like a panel designed for a Pronto. All controls would be locked in place and activated by a mouse click. :?:

Is this doable?

Absolutely. That's the whole idea

What you are doing is working in the Theme Editor in HouseBot. As you have seen, it allows you to create the Theme user interface. However, it is NOT a functional Theme in the sense that it will actually make anything happen in HouseBot.

Your next step is to associate the Theme to a Software Remote. You can create your own, but the simplest way to seeing your Theme run would be to:
  1. From the main HouseBot tree view, expand the Software Remotes folder and click on the Local Remote item.
  2. Select the Theme that you want to run on this remote in the Default Theme combo box.
  3. From your Windows Start menu, find the HouseBot group and then select/start the Local Software Remote item.
This will start the Software Remote program which will then load the Theme and allow you to actually interact with it.

You can run the Software Remote applications on any Windows (or WinCE/Pocket PC) machine, but you will have to manually copy the EXE file over.

Hope this helps...

Scott,

Thank you for your reply. That is just what I needed. This program may- well end a long search for the perfect software.
