Receive Buffer Overflow Question
Receive Buffer Overflow Question
I keep getting these Buffer Overflow Errors. They keep stopping my Zwave thermostat. What are the Buffer Overflow?
Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
The Z-Wave hardware interface has a memory buffer where it will keep incoming data until it can figure out what to do with it. Generally, the interface can identify the packet type and will know exactly what the data is. The buffer is 256 bytes long, which is enough room to handle any command. However, if for some reason the interface can't find the end of the data, the buffer will overflow and the interface will need to reset the input buffer.
The error that you are seeing before the buffer reset error is probably what is causing the issue. It's possible that the data being returned by the sensor is just not being handled correctly by the plugin. Do you know what kind of sensor and data is being returned?

Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
I have only a Z-Wave thermostat (Wayne Dalton WDTC-20) and a ControlThink Zwave usb adapter on my Z-Wave network. I also downgraded the firmware on the ControlThink Zwave usb adapter to work with the Housebot program. How do I find what data is being returned? Any pointers will be appreciated.
Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
The best thing to do is to run a hardware interface trace. Sometimes it's tedious and difficult to determine much from the trace, but sometimes there's something interesting that shows up.

Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
I can PM you the complete Interface trace, because .CSV files are not allowed on the forum. I can send it to you.

I sent you an email with that error trace.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
Hey Raptor did you have to downgrade your firmware on your z-wave usb adaptor to get HouseBot to work with your thermostat?
I am just wondering if that is the key to these buffer overflow. Just a thought.

Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
Hi,
No i did not, i have a Wayne Dalton USB z-wave stick.
I have enabled hardware tracing on the Z-wave adaptor so i should have some data there soon if needed.

Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
Was this ever resolved?
Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
Wouldn't you know it. I sent my trace file to Scott, and since then I have not got any errors.

Re: Receive Buffer Overflow Question
If you can send me a dump file (found in the HouseBot dump directory), maybe it will shed some light on the crash. Send it to support at cebotics.comraptor_demon wrote:Weird, well i am still getting these, house bot also still crashes for no reason and i cannot figure out why. (
