What housebot can do for you!

Post by raptor_demon »

Hi,

While sitting at my desk it occured to me how often I wonder how to do something in housebot, and then find someone has done what I need.

Often times several people have developed different approches and some work better than others.

What I am proposing is a sticked post with differnt contibutions from people on what they have been able todo. This would allow new users to get a feel for what Housebot can do with some killer screenshots of some of the fantastic SWremote layouts i have seen.

For instance i have been able todo the following (with a lot of help from the forums users):
  • Netcam Intergration
    Squeezebox control (basic)
    Log Variables to a file
    Graph to an Image dynamically
Use the SWremote on my 100usd WebDT touchscreen
Use SWremote on my windows Mobile phone outside of my network
    Motion detection
RFXCOM with 10 Oregon Scientific Temp Sensors
    W800 with DS10a's and ActiveEyes
    CallerID

What I am still working on:
  • Image library of images from Netcam on SWremote
    Security System Intergration
SWremote designs (the wife says mine are unprofessional)
    Squeezebox control (advanced)
I know a lot of you have some really cool features that you have built!!

Lets see em!

Agree...

A very long standing request is a section where screenshots can be placed. Now we can't do that because of the restriction on max upload capacity. I could post my an almost complete bundle of screenshots if a section like that would be available. I find it very useful to look at other persons creations because it almost always brings new ideas to the table. Lot's of time I am browsing Google Images about Home Automation or watch Youtube's about the same catagory just to get some new ideas. Just recently I saw some basic RFXCOM screenshots and saw visually what it can do. Now I own a couple of pulsecounters from RFXCOM and integrated my water, gas and elec usage to the point where I can set of an alarm when water is used while I am on vacation.

So I think an upload section for screenshots would be very welcome on this forum.

Scott, is there a way we can have an area to post more than 3 screenshots or is this not really possible?

I increased some of the quotas for the forums. You can now have 20 attachments @ max 10Mb each. Let me know if that doesn't work.

A separate section would be even better, but if that can't be done, lease start a new thread in the General section or so called "Screenshots". I will post a couple myself next week.
10MB per attachment would be fine since a simple screenshot is only 200 - 400KB.

Thanks!

Scott, I just tried uploading a zipped screenshots attachment but I got a message telling me that the max upload is capped at 2MB. My zip is 7MB. I can break it up into multiple posts, but your 10MB setting is not valid. I will wait for your reply to see if you up it to 10MB or let it be at 2MB.

I just have many screenshots so it's not that I used heavy files

It looks like there was a PHP setting that was undermining the 10Mb setting. I changed the PHP config. See if it works now.

Scott,

This is what I get now:

The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 5 MiB.

So no luck yet...

I found another limiting setting and set it to 10mb. Try it again... we'll get there.

This time it worked! :D
Hopefully many others will take the time to post their stuff. It can be of great value for new ideas and potential new users.
Next week I will add some screen shots that are visible. I don't have the means to do that right now.

Thanks!

Richard
