Possible to cancel HBDeviceSetEnabled?

Possible to cancel HBDeviceSetEnabled?
I'm working on a plugin and I have a question. In my plugin I create a socket in HBDeviceSetEnabled. If for whatever reason I can't succesfully open the socket I want to be able to "cancel" the enable (leave the device disabled). Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but is there a way to do this?

Never mind. I figured out how this is *supposed* to work. Now I just have to get my plugin to cooperate.
