Phidgets

I know most people are not coders and like to get home controllers, but I avoided a home controller like the plague.

I wanted to stay with an open design, so for sensors and the such I used Phidgets' interface kits. You can get these for $70-$90. The have Digital input, digital swithing and analog input for which they have many controls available.

The company also releases source code for every product, so I think it would be easy to write a plug-in for.

I am not asking that someone writes a plug-in, I am just recommending that everyone look at the Phidgets device and see how many amazing things you can do and how easy custom software is to make.

I know this is an old post but I am at a crossroads.

For my HA application I need 8 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs. I have a HomeVision PC and an Ocelot. The HomeVision is not supported in HB and I need another adicon module for the Ocelot for digital I/O. The Phidgets look pretty neat and I like the USB interface. Any recommendations on which way to go. I suppose I could control my HomeVision via a general serial device simply to control the digital I/O (8 in and 8 out). I am using Insteon and don't really need the X10 of either of my older controllers any more. I am currently using the Ocelot for I/R. Anyone gone through this situation?

Thanks

kevin

You could use the xAP Netiom along with the xAP plugin for HouseBot - 16 inputs, 16 Outputs, 4 A/D, serial and built in Ethernet/WebServer/email.

PS The HomeVision and HomeVision Pro controllers are supported in xAP via an Ethernet attached embedded controller project that I designed for my own needs - I had a few manufactured too (~$250). I'm thinking HomeVision PC isn't going to work however due to lack of serial port connectivity... The gateway also supports the Clipsal / Schneider C-Bus lighting system.
