Fresh install, Win Server 2008 r2 sp1 - immediate crash

Post by pstratford »

Hello,

I’ve just installed Housebot (3.5.201 and tried 3.43 too) on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, patches all up to date, Dell 2950, and it crashes immediately with an APPCRASH. Nothing in the Dump folder.
Attempted reinstalls with only Housebot itself, not even generic drivers, still crashes. Attempted running in local and Domain admin – no difference.

Faulting application name: HouseBotServer.exe, version: 3.52.1.0, time stamp: 0x5c530cdc

Basically, I’m just trying to replicate the set up of a Windows Server 2003 machine that I need to decommission. Everything *appears* to be the okay but I can’t be sure. There’s some mention of .NET 3.5 on the forums – does it still require that or are later versions fine? Similarly the JET support, it doesn’t seem to be on the 2003 machine, so I haven’t installed that.

There are other exciting things like SQL Express on the box, but I don't think that's getting in the way.

Anyone got any ideas?

Regards

Does it show the loading splash screen at all? If so, how far does it get?

Are you doing this with an older HouseBot configuration directory/file, or is this on a clean configuration?

Clean install. No splash, just BOOM! straight into the Windows crash dialog.
Tried the compatibility modes, no difference.

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of Windows Server 2008 to test with. I would first try and install HouseBot with the bare minimum of plugins. If that still fails, try running Dependency Walker. It can be a challenge to filter out the true problems from the output. Definitely ignore any dll loading issue from any system DLLS.
