ControlThink and WDTC-20 Installation

Post by James D »

Here is the procedure I used.

1. Go to http://forums.controlthink.com/t/2068.aspx and download the Firmware installer tool (ThinkStick Update) program.
2. Then go to http://forums.controlthink.com/t/1910.aspx and download the compiled firmware for the ControlThink z-wave adapter
3. Install the thinkstick updater program and unzip the compiled firmware download
4. Stick your ControlThink zwave usb adapter in your USB port, and let windows automatically recognized the device.
5. Open the thinkstick updater program.
6. Press Alt F then go to “Load Update File.”
7. Navigate to where you place the compiled firmware for the ControlThink
8. Pick the zwave_427_installer_us.ctu if you have a “US” ControlThink Zwave usb Adapter. If you are outside the “US” pick the firmware the applies to you. Make sure that the firmware has the _427_ in it. Do not use the _430_ one.
9. Click update and the firmware will be applied.
10. Next you need to open the ThinkEssential program if you have it. If not you can download the Homeseer ZTool program to set up your Zwave network. It has a 30 trial period.
a. ThinkEssential is about $24 including shipping and handling
b. HomeSeer ZTool is about $30 including hipping and handling
11. That the two program (whatever one you decide) and add the thermostat
• HomeSeer ZTools
a. On HomeSeer ZTool – Go to interface SmartStick or WDUSB-10 Click the Intialize button. Under the Controller Status Box - It should give you a Home ID, Controller Mode and node count.
b. Press the Add Device Button – a learning button will appear
c. Go to the thermostat (WDTC-20) and press the Bind button the top of the thermostat Press the button fast, do not press and hold.
d. Another box (conformation will come up)
e. Highlight the thermostat that has now been create and stored on the ControlThink zwave usb adapter, and press On or Off
f. Make sure the thermostat responds.
g. To delete the thermostat; click the delete Device Button and then press the Bind Button on the thermostat, and it should remove it from the zwave network.
• ThinkEssential
a. Open the program. Click the “Include Device” Button a dialoge box will pop up. Go to the thermostat (WDTC-20) and press the Bind button the top of the thermostat Press the button fast, do not press and hold.
b. Another box will come up (I think) Going off the top of my head.
• Pay attention to the Node ID the program give you for the thermostat
a. Close the Zwave Program (what ever one you have)
b. You have successfully associated the thermostat to the ControlThink Zwave Usb Adapter.

12.Put the Zwave Usb Adapter in the Usb port of your HouseBot Server (if different) and let Windows recognize the new hardware.
Open HouseBot (if not already)

13. Click hardware InterfacesAdd interfaceZwave WD USB Hardware Module Next
14. Give the Zwave Interface a name
15. It will ask to set up a Zwave device. Select the Zwave thermostat. Give the device a name, and node ID What ever the Zwave programs tell you the themostat is.
16. Go back to Hardware Interfaces and changed Enabled to “Yes”
17. Then go back to Thermostat device and change Get Status to Yes and you should see the current Temperature of the WDTC-20

I hope this help others. Thanks for all the help.
