Unrecognized Insteon Message Received [2]

Post by dorrsr »

I am getting a lot of error messages in the error log. A lot of these are "Invalid Insteon Message received Messages must start with '2' "

I also see errors such as X10 recieved HC [J] for command portion of X10, but it doesn't match last recieved HC[C}

Housebot does not always see when my bathroom fan is turned on (I have an auto off after 60 minutes). If I do a GetStatus it sees power status fine. I have no X10 devices at my home. I have 4 Insteon devices used to control 2 lights and 2 switches. The two lights work flawlessly. The 2 switches ( one is new the other was recently replaced) was working well and now is not any longer. I do not remember if it worked well prior to 3.30.01. PLM is Smarthome Powerlink Modem on serial port on a dedicated PC. Its info is: Firmware Rev 63, Deveice Category 3, Device Sub Cateogry 5.

I would love to shut off X10 in Housebot, but it appears this cannot be done.

Any ideas?

Steve,

I suppose it could be a bad Insteon device sending incorrect messages, but it may also be noise on the line. Do the error messages occur when you would expect a normal event to be received?

Try running a hardware interface trace on the Insteon hardware interface and see what it shows.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I had not worked with Tracing before.

Here is a small section from thetrace file which shows a "bad" X10 command. Of course in my house all X10 commands are bad because I am not using any X10 components. :-)

Steve,

Do these errors coincide with another actual even that is being misinterpreted? Is it safe to ignore the data?
