Use a SWRemote over the Internet

Post by art »

You can connect to your HB server over the internet by following these steps:

1) Set up a dynamic DNS using the free service http://www.dyndns.com (Your DDNS will be yourhost.dyndns.org or other of your choosing (see the help on the dyndns.com website on how to set this up)
2) Download (from dyndns.com), install and run the dyndns client on your HB server
3) Set up port forwarding on your router - forward port 5015
4) Copy the appropriate SWRemote client (Program Files\Housebot\clients\...)to your remote computer
5) Put the name of your SWRemote in the Software Remote Name field and "yourhost.dyndns.org" in the the Server Address field of the SWRemote configuration dialog
6) Run the SWRemote client on your remote computer

Post a reply if you need help making this work. I am able to access my SWRemote from my computer at work now. Awesome!

Never did. I was able to connect using a SWRemote on my laptop connected to my phone - using it as a wireless modem - so I know it is not the internet connection - its something to do with the device. I was going to try doing a hard reset and reinstalling the SWRemote on the device but haven't gotten around to it yet.
