Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

An update to this: I just discovered that Insteon is NOT no more after all. See https://Insteon.com . New company, separated from former Smarthome (RIP), Hardware (switches, hub, etc.) available, as well as Android and Apple apps. All this discovered because my HB server is dead - see separate post....

housebot crash and reinstall failure

The HB server crashed early this morning and will not restart. Tried cold booting the box (no help), and reinstalling HB server 3.56 (twice). Each time I get the same message after the install: Unable to execute file: C:|Program FIles (x86)Housebot\HousebotServer.exe Create Process failed; code 740 ...

Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

I have not had a chance to get back to that work. It’s summer and a lot of outdoor stuff - both work and play - take precedence. Scott suggested checking for drivers and i still have to do that.

Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

Well, clearly, I'm missing a step. I installed the stick, identified the COM port, added the hardware interface to HB, but cannot enable the thing. Restarted HB until the system log did not have a ZWave error. No help. I did notice that there are 2 ZWave USB HW interfaces, tried both, with no differ...

Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

👍
Ordered an Aeotec z stick 7 and a smart switch to test. I’m curious about the z-wave stick’s range. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

Thanks! Aeotec: presumably the USB dongle version and not the (apparently) standalone hub.(Dunno how HB would interface to that one.)

Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

For Z-wave device (light switches) control by HB, what is required? A hub, similar to the Insteon PLM?

Re: Software Remotes are not functioning

Whats perplexing is I dont know the answer to the root cause, aside from “Well, that’s Windows.”. Oddly, I had followed my own advice: ”When in doubt, reboot.”. And that had failed to correct the IP config settings. I had checked, obviously, the Static Ip, the subnet mask, and anything that IPCONFIG...

Re: Software Remotes are not functioning

Fixed. I discovered that the issue was IP related - Could not Remote desktop to the HB server, so HB clearly was not the issue. I changed the HB server from static IP to DHCP, let the router assign an IP address. And RDP (and pinging) was restored. I will as time allows go back to static IP so all t...

Software Remotes are not functioning

Not sure what transpired, but now, after last night, none of my Software Remotes can connect to the HB server. And that includes two that are actually ON the server box. Further, the IP address of the HB server, 192.168.1.120, cannot be pinged from anywhere, but all connected and Wi-Fi devices funct...

Re: Apparently Insteon is no more

Thanks. Me too - Alexa using HB to control stuff behind HB. At some point I guess I need to migrate toward ZWave or some other method of lighting control. (I'm surprised you or anyone else is still using X10. I had 1 or two stand-alone (non-HB) lighting control applications, but the hardware became ...

Apparently Insteon is no more

I know I’m late to the party here. But everything HB-related has been working flawlessly. But today, i chose to replace a failed Insteon wall switch with a spare. Then i discovered that Insteon (i.e. Smarthome/Smartlabs) is apparently out of business. This begs the question of what to replace Insteo...

Sensibo HVAC with Housebot?

Sensibo is a device that allows remote control of HVAC units (e.g mini splits) that are normally controlled via an IR remote. Their app (IOS, Android) allows you to set all (or virtually all) functions that you would normally do via the HVACs IR remote. In addition, geofencing, Amazon Alexa, etc, ti...

Re: HB Server crashing repeatedly

It seems that a Microsoft Security update on 10/14 may have been the culprit. I uninstalled one of the 3 installs done on 10/14 and the HBserver has not crashed since. And this is without the aid of any utilities that restart crashed programs. So, I’m cautiously optimistic. Note to self: If HB begin...
